The A5 shares most of its mechanical package with the A4 of the same generation, wrapped in a coupe, Sportback or cabriolet body. The service schedule tracks the A4 closely, with a few items specific to the body style, particularly on the cabriolet.

Audi A5 service intervals

Audi sets a scheduled service every 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Every second service is the larger one. These are the intervals Audi Australia publishes for the A5, and following them is what keeps the service record intact.

The A5 does not carry a toothed belt interval, because the engines fitted to it use a chain. If your car is an RS5, the sports differential oil falls due at 90,000 km, which is an item a general workshop will not usually be looking for.

Brake fluid falls due on time rather than distance, which catches out the A5s that only come out at weekends. Audi lists it as a brake fluid change at 24 months for every model, so the system is flushed and bled rather than topped up. We carry it out as part of our ATE accredited brake work.

What is included at each Audi A5 service

At every oil change service, 15,000 km or 12 months:

• Engine oil and oil filter replaced with oil meeting the Audi specification for your engine
• Full vehicle inspection, with the results written up for you rather than summarised verbally
• Logbook stamped for the oil change service
• Service interval display reset using the correct diagnostic equipment

At every inspection with oil change service, 30,000 km or 24 months:

• Everything in the oil change service above
• Dust and pollen (cabin) filter replaced
• Air filter element replaced
• Brake fluid changed, which Audi schedules on time rather than distance at 24 months
• Any additional items that fall due at that distance for your engine, listed in the table above

Common Audi A5 problems we see

The A5 follows the A4 on timing chain tensioners, carbon build-up and cooling system leaks. Specific to the body, we check the cabriolet roof drains, because blocked drains are a common and entirely avoidable cause of water finding its way into the cabin and the boot.

Where a fault is not obvious from the symptoms, we start by tracing the fault first rather than replacing parts and hoping. It is cheaper for you and it is the only honest way to quote the work.
