Audi A1 Servicing & Repairs

Audi A1 Service Sydney Pagewood

The A1 is a small car built to Audi tolerances, which is a different proposition to a small car built to a budget. The turbocharged three and four cylinder petrol engines are strong, and they are sensitive to oil condition and service timing in a way a naturally aspirated engine is not. We service A1s to the Audi schedule at our Pagewood workshop and we stamp the logbook.

Audi A1 service intervals

Audi sets a scheduled service every 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Every second service is the larger one. These are the intervals Audi Australia publishes for the A1, and following them is what keeps the warranty valid.

Service item Interval Applies to
Oil change service 15,000 km or 12 months All TFSI and TDI
Inspection with oil change service 30,000 km or 24 months All TFSI and TDI
Dust and pollen (cabin) filter 30,000 km or 24 months All models
Air filter element 30,000 km All TFSI and TDI
Brake fluid change 24 months All models
Spark plugs 60,000 km or 72 months All TFSI
Ribbed V-belt 60,000 km All TFSI and TDI
Fuel filter 60,000 km All TDI
Toothed (timing) belt 120,000 km 1.0 and 1.5 TFSI
S tronic gearbox oil 60,000 km 2.0 TFSI

The A1 is one of the few Audis in the range that still runs a toothed belt rather than a chain on the 1.0 and 1.5 TFSI engines. At 120,000 km it is a significant job and it is not optional, because a belt failure on these engines is usually terminal. The 1.5 TFSI in the A3 with that belt runs the same interval.

Brake fluid is the item most often missed on a low kilometre A1, because it falls due on time rather than distance. Audi lists it as a brake fluid change at 24 months for every model, which means the system is flushed and bled rather than topped up. We carry it out as part of our ATE accredited brake work.

What is included at each Audi A1 service

At every oil change service, 15,000 km or 12 months:

  • Engine oil and oil filter replaced with oil meeting the Audi specification for your engine
  • Full vehicle inspection, with the results written up for you rather than summarised verbally
  • Logbook stamped for the oil change service
  • Service interval display reset using the correct diagnostic equipment

At every inspection with oil change service, 30,000 km or 24 months:

  • Everything in the oil change service above
  • Dust and pollen (cabin) filter replaced
  • Air filter element replaced
  • Brake fluid changed, which Audi schedules on time rather than distance at 24 months
  • Any additional items that fall due at that distance for your engine, listed in the table above

Common Audi A1 problems we see

On the A1s that come through the workshop the recurring themes are carbon build-up on the intake side of the direct injection petrol engines, ignition coil and spark plug wear showing up as a rough idle or a misfire under load, and water pump and thermostat housing leaks as the car ages. None of these are unusual for the platform, and all of them are cheaper to catch at a service than to diagnose after a breakdown.

Where a fault is not obvious from the symptoms, we start by reading the fault properly rather than replacing parts and hoping. It is cheaper for you and it is the only honest way to quote the work.

Booking your Audi A1 service

A1 owners often come to us after the first few dealership services, once the new car warranty period is behind them and the invoices stop making sense. The schedule we follow is the same. The price is not.

We are at 32 Ocean Street, Pagewood, about fifteen minutes from the CBD and an easy run from the eastern suburbs and the inner west. If a Pink Slip inspection is due at the same time we can do both in one visit. You can see our wider Audi servicing and intervals on the main Audi page.
