Audi A3 Servicing & Repairs

Audi A3 Service & Repairs Sydney

The A3 is the Audi we see most often, across the sedan, the Sportback and the S3 and RS3 variants. It shares a great deal with the wider Volkswagen Group platform, which means the service requirements are well documented and the common faults are predictable if you work on them every week. We do.

Audi A3 service intervals

Audi sets a scheduled service every 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Every second service is the larger one. These are the intervals Audi Australia publishes for the A3, and following them is what protects the manufacturer warranty.

Service item Interval Applies to
Oil change service 15,000 km or 12 months All TFSI and TDI
Inspection with oil change service 30,000 km or 24 months All TFSI and TDI
Dust and pollen (cabin) filter 30,000 km or 24 months All models
Air filter element 30,000 km All TFSI and TDI
Brake fluid change 24 months All models
Spark plugs 60,000 km or 72 months All TFSI
Ribbed V-belt 60,000 km All TFSI and TDI
Fuel filter 60,000 km All TDI
Toothed (timing) belt 120,000 km 1.5 TFSI
S tronic gearbox oil 120,000 km RS3 2.5 TFSI
Haldex coupling oil 36 months RS3 quattro

The 1.5 TFSI runs a toothed belt with a 120,000 km replacement interval, the same interval as the A1 with that engine. The larger petrol engines in the range use a chain and do not carry that item. If your A3 is an RS3, the Haldex coupling oil is on a 36 month interval regardless of distance, and it is one of the most commonly skipped items on cars that have passed through general workshops.

Brake fluid falls due on time rather than distance, so it is the item most often missed on an A3 that covers low kilometres. Audi lists it as a brake fluid change at 24 months for every model, which means the system is flushed and bled rather than topped up. We carry it out as part of our ATE accredited brake work.

What is included at each Audi A3 service

At every oil change service, 15,000 km or 12 months:

  • Engine oil and oil filter replaced with oil meeting the Audi specification for your engine
  • Full vehicle inspection, with the results written up for you rather than summarised verbally
  • Logbook stamped for the oil change service
  • Service interval display reset using the correct diagnostic equipment

At every inspection with oil change service, 30,000 km or 24 months:

  • Everything in the oil change service above
  • Dust and pollen (cabin) filter replaced
  • Air filter element replaced
  • Brake fluid changed, which Audi schedules on time rather than distance at 24 months
  • Any additional items that fall due at that distance for your engine, listed in the table above

Common Audi A3 problems we see

The patterns we see on A3s are carbon build-up on the direct injection engines, S tronic mechatronic and clutch pack wear showing as hesitation or shuddering at low speed, water pump and thermostat failures, and ignition coil faults. The gearbox in particular rewards servicing on schedule rather than when a symptom appears, because by then the repair is usually larger.

Where a fault is not obvious from the symptoms, we start by finding the actual cause rather than replacing parts and hoping. It is cheaper for you and it is the only honest way to quote the work.

Booking your Audi A3 service

If your A3 is out of its new car warranty and the dealership quote no longer stacks up, the work here follows the same schedule with parts that meet the same specification. Owners moving up to A4 servicing find the same approach applies.

We are at 32 Ocean Street, Pagewood, about fifteen minutes from the CBD and an easy run from the eastern suburbs and the inner west. You can see every Audi model we service on the main Audi page. Call (02) 9316 8382 or book your A3 in online.
